February

At last, I am updating this Xanga... I have been focusing on Deafread; it has many good blogspots related to the deaf culture, and I even created my blogspot, but I have yet to figure out how to link my blogspot to Deafread website yet.

Anyway, yup, we have a blizzard last week here in Indiana... got only one foot of snow.  BUT, oh my, the Hoosiers and snow DO NOT MIX.  The Hoosiers apparently do not have the common sense when it comes to driving in the snow... agh.  I am grateful for the years I have lived in New York State

Elizabeth has signed up the tumbling class at Carmel Performance Center and she is a natural.  This coming summer she will attend gymnastics twice a week.  She is doing fine at ISD, blossoming in ASL, even though I nurse a few concerns of mine... that she is not getting sufficient speech therapy and auditory training, while she has plenty of residential hearing.  Here's a photo of her....

She is wearing a medal for acknowleding that she participated in ISD's Winter Deaf Olympics two weeks ago.

Now, for David... after a few months of thinking, Brian and I made the decision to pull him out of Indiana School for the Deaf, to mainstream him at a nearby local elementary school.  He is much happier, feeling free from the bondage of ASL.  While ASL provides freedom for Elizabeth, it provides bondage for David... all because of their communication preferances.  David's preferred communication method is talking and listening, and he was becoming depressed at ISD, affecting his schoolwork, feeling trapped there.  So we mainstreamed him and he is like a new person... happy, calm, motivated boy.  I know that there are some people who would not agree with our decision with David.  Below is a pix of him playing a computer game (the Middle-Earth.)

Have a great day!  We are looking forward to spring....when the kids can finally get outside MORE!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

The picture of Xmas tree below is taken from yesterday, before Santa came and put more gifts under the tree...

Merry Christmas!!! David woke up too early... ugh.

Problem... Brian and Elizabeth are sick, with low grade fever, ear infection, and cold.  But they showed good spirits and now Brian is taking a nap.  Elizabeth does not want to take a nap, and she is a bit fussy, not herself. *Sigh*.  At least she is home for two week break and she should have plenty of rest to recover from this bout of cold before returning to school on January 8th.

Kids like their gifts OK... yup, I am using the word "OK".  They were disappointed that Santa did not grant ALL of their wishes.  This year, Brian and I agreed to get them LESS gifts, to teach them the meaning of giving...Well, it did not go well, but it would take some time to get used to it over time.

This PM we will head over to our friend's house for Xmas gathering.

Elizabeth's Kindergarten Play

This morning I went to Indiana School for the Deaf to watch my daughter, Elizabeth's class play... called "The Gingerbread Baby".  It was CUTE... three students had most lines... Elizabeth, Franco, and Eric.  Of course, as a mother, my heart swelled with pride that Elizabeth opened the play by explaining to the audience that the play was adapted from a book, with the name of author, etc.

All the elementary students watched the play and they seemed to enjoy watching the kindergarten kids running in circles around the audience, chasing after the gingerbread baby (Eric.)  Elizabeth played a mother and Eric a kid. The rest various characters, aninmals, farmer, etc.

Okay, here are the pixes...

The props...

Ahhhhh... Elizabeth, as a mother waiting for the gingerbread baby to complete baking...

At the end of the show, getting ready to bow.

Job well done, the kindergarteners!

Merry Christmas and may God bless ya'all...

Kings Island

Wow, almost two months passed... I will post a few photos that were taken in the month of September.  For now, I want to post a few photos taken this weekend in Cinnanciti, Ohio, at Kings Island, an amusement park owned by Paramount... lots of FUN!  I went there several times when I was  little,  during my childhood visits to Dayton, Ohio, where  my mother's family lived.  Last time  I was there I must have been around David's age, roughly 9 or 10 years old.   A lot has changed in the last 30 years,  but a few remained same, such as  water fountains,  tower,  water log,  a wooden roller coaster .... actually , King's Island has 14 roller coasters now and I have not gone on all of them due to  Elizabeth's being too  little for this kind  of ride (yup, David went on many of them and his favorite is the Beast...)  We went there with another family.

Here are the photos...

Ahhhh... that is the entrance into King's Island, with a great water fountain and the tower mimicking the Paris Effical (spelling?)

Sitting on the fence... David, Elizabeth, and Marlena.  Sitting on the cement bench... me, Tom a family friend and Marlena's father.  Yup, many children dressed up for the Halloween theme at Kings Island.  During the day, it was Nick and Treat, in honor of Nickadolen channel and during the evening, it was FearFest which was better for older kids.  Elizabeth was not happy in the evening, because she could not go on any rides and she was steered away from haunted spots .  But she had a blast during the day...

Elizabeth as a little vampire, David as a skeleton, and Marlena as a pirate (she called herself as a queen of pirates.)

Last Summer Days before School Resumes....

At last kids are back at school, so I had a pretty good relaxing week without kids.  Kids seem to like their new school so far, but it is too early to tell.  The challenge is to get them to sleep in the evenings, especially with the sun not setting yet!  So far both of their teachers are male... a different experience for them, after having had female teachers at RSD.  They seem not to mind it.

Me, I am hitting the textbooks now... I am taking Nutrition and Health class, online with Trinity College of Naturaly Health, in the certificate program (Certified Health Specialist.)  So far it is fun.  Also, I am knitting a blanket for Elizabeth's bed (I knitted one for David, and I promised Elizabeth she'd have one of her own, so here I am...knitting.)

Anyway, here are the pixes of kids enjoying the last summer days before school resumed...

Also, a pix of Elizabeth with Marlena, a family friend below... great pix!
